A word of thanks to Sue Meager (smeagher1) for the Manze's picture. Says “no pies in van overnight “. How times have changed.
Times furnishing was the tall building down on the right.
OLD KENT ROAD.
Re: OLD KENT ROAD.
Thomas Smith & Co. White & Brown Stone Potters, Canal Potteries, Old Kent Road.
The pottery was located on the west side of the Grand Surrey Canal to the north of the Old Kent Road. 1867-94.
Hills, Chapman & Co, Old Kent Road, found references that this was in Burlington Place (1830) which was opposite Albany Road. roughly where Tesco’s is today but not confirmed.

Re: OLD KENT ROAD.
Reliable Rads was just passed Marlborough Grove and just before the Post Office, going towards Canal Bridge.
Re: OLD KENT ROAD.
In 1914 it is listed as Bull Albert Edwards Dining Rooms. Not sure why it has got Kent Road and not Old Kent Road

Re: OLD KENT ROAD.
Great picture.
Times at 718 was on the other side of Commercial Way and demolished long ago. (The Kentish Drovers is 720 and the shops from right to left are 720a, 720b, and 722).
Beneath the "Old Kent" sign you can see the outline of a sign of the same shape but shorter - long enough for "Road", and the screw holes in the wall where it has fallen off.kiwi wrote:Not sure why it has got Kent Road and not Old Kent Road

Hi Fogbrain, thanks for that, yes you are right the other side of Commercial Way. I should have realised that as in one of my earlier posts I posted a card addressed to 718 Old Kent Road (1905). Could this be the same family standing by the shop

Re: OLD KENT ROAD.
The Half Moon Pub was situated at 623 Old Kent Road, originally 5 Grenada Place c1869. Grenada Place was roughly opposite where Ethnard Road is today (2025).
If you look at the two pictures it looks as though the pub changed position, only in the Newman picture J.W.FROST is on the right, and in the other picture J,W.FROST is on the left.
A bit confusing but maybe someone can come up with the answer.
