My family had a transport firm in Peckham and when my cousin was 17 and past his car test, they tried to get one of those ERFs down below the 3 ton unladen so he could drive it. They removed the inner wheels, the floorboards anything they could within the law. The ministry refused to co-operate on what they called a mere skeleton. He did eventually get to use it and it was kept working for many years, I still remember the plate it started EXY and always refered to as Exxey.
