I have a memory of the London lamplighter. Believe it or not there are still 1400 street gas lamps in London and 5 lamplighters to look after them

I had one of these toys. I sometimes think my parents did not know me. I suspect that they are no longer sold LOL

Radiogram. This was part of my entertainment before we had our first TV. I became an Al Jolsen fan listening to LP records on this. I remember staying up very late sitting on the floor by the speaker to listen to the broadcast of the Englishman Don Cockell fighting Rocky Marciano for the heavyweight title in 1955. (below)
Cockell was born in Balham

I remember some old cars with hand cranks like these. If it took a while to fire up you could end up pretty tired. If it back fired I was told you could end up with a broken wrist or arm

I remember the ration book. Fourteen years of food rationing in Britain ended at midnight on 4 July 1954, when restrictions on the sale and purchase of meat and bacon were lifted. This happened nine years after the end of the war.

As a kid I saw a lot of motorbikes with big Watsonian sidecars that could fit the family. For the most part it was post WW2 economics I guess. I am guessing that they are a rare if ever sight now.
