Re: Carter Paterson/Pickfords
A letter containing information from CARE, via Carter Paterson & Pickfords, Willow Walk, dated November 1947
A “gift from America”, a CARE parcel, was being sent from Jacksonville on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth’s wedding. This letter was sent to a family living in Dartford in 1947.
Some of the food in the parcel, a very large tin of sliced peaches, tins of peas, potatoes, evaporated milk and packs of cereal. I assume sent to people in need?

Re: Carter Paterson/Pickfords
In 1933 all the major road parcel carriers (including Carter Paterson) were bought by the railways and operated under the Hay's Wharf Cartage holding company. However, the individual companies continued to operate independently.

A particular attraction of electrics as delivery vans was that they reflected modernity, and enabled their customers to say that they were keeping up with the times. Nearly 100yrs later and they are still trying.
