Wolseley Street was called London Street.
Wolseley Buildings, Dockhead, Bermondsey, 1926. Tenements such as these were a common feature of inner south London in the late 19th and early 20th century. Typically, they had been built by private landlords, some with a philanthropic inclination. Though unattractive to modern eyes they had better facilities than the buildings they replaced and were able to cope with the high population density of the day.

Crowd watches eviction Wolseley Bldgs, Dockhead 1932 Bailiffs evict mother and eight children from tenement home at Bermondsey.
Mr and Mrs A Cole and their eight children have been evicted from their tenement home at Wolesely buildings, Bermondsey, London. Mr Cole is an unemployed labourer and is five weeks behind in the payment of his rent the crowd outside the home watching the police enter the building. 8 November 1932. Very sad time for the family, I wonder what happened to them? lets hope they had better times round the corner.

In the first post Kiwi noted that Wolseley Street used to be London Street. This print of London Street in 1810 gives a sense of the unsanitary conditions that caused disease for the poor locals of the day.

Just one of the many entrances to W&R Jacob & Co. Ltd in 1988 who had various buildings in the immediate area. The view is looking towards Mill Street with Dockhead Fire Station behind the photographer.
