FILM BATTLE OF BRITAIN 1969 Rephidim Street,Bermondsey.jpgFilm Battle of Britain 1969, Rephidim Street 2016.jpg

I can see my house in this scene. The first door on the left in Weston Street, with the outside doorstep area painted burgundy. This strip of homes were different from the other homes on this stretch of Weston Street because they didn't have the bay windows in the front room.
Also, the first house on the right in Rephidim Street, on the corner with Weston Street, was where my uncle and my cousin were killed during the blitz. As you can see in this scene, the first two houses have been re-built and look different from the others. My family and others that were still living in Weston Street at the time were entertaining the film crew and actors during this filming, giving them tea and sandwiches in-between shooting scenes. This whole Weston Street/Rephidim Street area was eventually demolished soon after the filming was completed and the new housing was built in 1969/1970, as seen in the second picture.
