MYSTERY-DO YOU RECOGNISE THESE PLACES OR PEOPLE?

Postby kiwi » Fri Mar 10, 2017 2:54 am

Can you help with this photo? It states Cobourg Road,Burgess Park area. The problem is I think it is Albany Road, with Calmington Rd on the right, also it looks like Cobourg School is on the other side of the water. If I know for certain, one way or the other then I can post the picture on site. Thanks.

Without the image it's a bit difficult to know, Kiwi. Have a look at the link above. This is a map of the junction of Cobourg Road and Longcroft Road. You'll nee to scroll to the west to get to Calmington Road. The 1936-52 map option may give you the best view. Post the image and we'll 'ave a butchers.

Looks like Stanworth Street to me. This is based on a postwar map. Looks like Abbey Buildings in the distance if you get close up. Not many buildings of that height in the Lynton Road area.

Albany Road.
Hi Elim, thanks for that. I gather you mean the buildings on the right regarding the Dun Cow Pub. Have you any more information as I can't seem to find any.? There looks like a pub sign opposite on the other side of Albany Road. I do know there was a Dun Cow Pub in Albany Road way back in mid to late 1800's but where, not sure, except the address numbers where odd, between 249 & 253. Numbers do change over the years but odd numbers seem to be on the side you think the Pub was. There is further information on the Albany Road & Living in the Blitz Topic's.
Cheers Kiwi.
