David Goldswain wrote:The ice cream shop near the Bricklayers arms was probably the greengrocers owned by Peter Bottone (Italian) situated at the convergence of Tabard Street and Great Dover Street. We used to go there for the sixpenny mix, vanilla ice cream, lemon ice and strawberry ice . Does anybody remember the shop ?

Didnt it have a little window that you bought the ice-cream from?

Came across this photo and it reminded me when we use to see Policeman on these bikes. They were so slow we use to chase after them up the street, much to the annoyance of the rider! By the time he turned round to tell us off, we had legged it!
They were Velocette LE Motorcycles, the LE stood for Little Engines. Later on they earned the nickname "Noddy Bikes" as the riders could not salute senior ranks whilst riding past them so they just nodded!
