- Redcross Street, c1899, Mowbray Buildings. In c1899 it was said the buildings where so dark that even in daytime you could not see the numbers on the doors, and at night the dark staircases harbour ruffians.

Allegedly the Boot and Flogger is the only bar in the country not to require an alcohol licence due to a historical quirk ?.
