Borough Market, Porters Race. Two barrows loaded with 4.5 cwt. (hundredweight) of fruit are used in a race from Borough Market on a five-mile course to Guy's hospital where the fruit was then given to the hospital for distribution amongst its patients. Each of the two barrows had a team of ten men who took over in relays. The finish was a dead heat, Assistant Matron thanking the organiser J. McKenna for his efforts to help Guy's Hospital. 7th August 1966.
