Albany Road, Burgess Park. Calmington Road first on right, then Secretan Road, third turning Kempshead Road. Both Secretan & Kempshead Roads have disappeared due to Burgess Park.

Re: ALBANY ROAD.
The long- disused William IV, on Albany Road was the last pub within the park before being demolished in 2010, It’s now an outdoor gym. It was memorably cloaked in ghostly white shortly before its demise – as part of another great Art in the Park community project.
Canal Street, beside the pub extends into the Burgess park and is currently used in part for parking. A section of the street extends beyond the park boundary fence. In the 1880s you would have been able to see at least 3 pubs from this, or almost any other, spot. Albany Road alone once had 11 drinking establishments, albeit some were very basic beer-shops, offering little more than shelter, a seat, and ale.

Re: ALBANY ROAD.
In the first picture of the lake (above) you can see a pub sign across Albany Road. Now know this to be The Duke of Edinburgh Pub, between Thurlow St & Bagshot St. On the side where the lake is, in this area of the picture was the Anchor Tap Pub.
Re: ALBANY ROAD.
Cunard St (Map1889), no longer there, it ran between Albany Rd & Neate St. Coming from Old Kent Road it was on the left just before Wells Way & opposite Villa St.
