The actual name of the parish when this building was erected was Rotherhithe, St Katharine "One of the churches that was built with the name of the replacement church on the same site, the foundation stone was laid on 3 May 1884 …” rather ordinary red-brick church." It suffered war damage in 1940 and the parish merged with Camberwell St Bartholomew in 1956 before it was demolished (possibly a few years later as it was still being used for a Sunday School and youth club). A new church of Bermondsey, St Katharine with St Bartholomew was built on the same site in Eugenia Road. 1960.

Built at the same time as the 1905 church that was destroyed in 1940 during WWII. The present church is the third.
