NEATE STREET.

Postby kiwi » Mon Mar 13, 2017 10:13 am

neate street2.jpg
Neate Street SE5 1959 Taken at the junction of Cobourg road.
The large building is the R. Whites soft drinks factory.
This appears to be a very desolate area in those post war days.

R. Whites began in 1845, with Robert and Mary White selling ginger beer in stone bottles from a barrow. Eventually it would engulf local rival Rawlings, with seven premises around the area. Locals recall the clatter of horses and carts used for distribution, and bottles bursting on hot days at the storage depots.
Neate Street. This steam engine was built by Tasker and Co, Hampshire in c1906, and delivered to R. Whites in Camberwell. X..png

Neate Street, c1881, I think this was next to the Dermantine works in Albany Row, which is no longer there.

I may be wrong on this but I think Arlington Grove is the gap between the houses, it was a cul-de-sac with the rear of R.Whites essence factory at the far end. The large building to the right is possibly the Mineral Water Works. :?:
