Fosney, A bit of New Years Eve detective work for you on this one. I had no idea where this was although I know it was taken around 1935. The only clue is the pub name The Old Miller of Mansfield which might mean the view is down Snowsfields (towards Crosby Row) with Kipling Street possibly on the left?. The Miller was rebuilt in a 60s redevelopemnt but I don't know if it was on the exact same spot - or even a completely different location. Anybody know more about the Pub and it's location? The only old map I've checked doesn't show a pub on that corner.

I think the Old Miller as in the picture was on the other side of the road to the new pub and closer to Crosby Row. If I'm correct looking at old OS maps, it was on the corner of Snowfields and Great Maze Pond which in those days didn't end up opposite Crosby Row like the current rebuilt road. That being the case the photo is the view east down Snowfields with Kipling Street on the right before the bend in the road with Crosby Row behind the photographer and to his right.

And the final view from the late 60's early 70's. The site is now a tennis court and the Miller pub is now on the corner of Snowsfields and Kipling St

Snowsfields

Two pictures from Snowsfields first the Butchers shop now replaced by a Coffee shop and next door was the Greengrocers now an empty shop.

Can anyone remember these shops and if so have you a story to tell about them?

When I was in the Bacon trade that butcher was one of my customers.
Unfortunately can't recall his name.
