Two pictures from Snowsfields first the Butchers shop now replaced by a Coffee shop and next door was the Greengrocers now an empty shop.

Can anyone remember these shops and if so have you a story to tell about them?

I lived above that butchers shop in Snowfields from 1950 to 1960. The butchers shop was called Brushwheelers their cold store entrance was on our stairway and it always smelled of meat and sawdust. The greengrocer was called Fishers and the sweet shop (to the left of the butchers but not in this pic) was Nathens

Snowfields,Boys from Snowfields School in Bermondsey. 1884 Charles Booth's researchers, found these children sitting limp and chilled on the school benches, puny, pale-faced, scantily clad and badly shod.

They certainly look better dressed 10 years later.

I lived in Balin House Long Lane 1962-68. The old Miller was patronised by the Guys rugby team and we stole and adapted one of their songs for our College side (not repeatable). Used to fancy the girl who served in the greengocers and who seemed to enhance the display.

I think these are the same row of houses as the picture above. Maxwell being probable number 101.
