Lower Road-Rotherhithe Baths

Staying in Lower Road we find Rotherhithe Leisure Centre which was known as Rotherhithe Baths.
History show that there has been a Public Baths on this site since 1801.
The leasehold for the site was presented to the Parish Council For Rotherhithe in 1887 by Mrs Carr--Gomm, and the old building was replaced in 1965

Original picture around 1900 the horse tram still runs on its way to Surrey Docks and know doubt will change horses at the depot in Crooke Road. The gates in the old picture are not the same as todays picture but the pub "China Hall" remains as does the period houses

Picture from about 1903 at the junction with Redriff Road and Osprey Street (at about where Jays Store is now) the horse trough was between Redriff Road and Osprey Street with Drews Cafe and Restaurant on the corner of Osprey Street with Tea and Cocoa 1d. The elecric tram has not yet arrived but the early street lights have. Note the curiosity of the bystanders
Can anyone tell us the name of the pub the corner of Maynard Street and Lower Road which can be seen further up the road?
Today all has changed.

Hi guys,

The name of the pub on the corner of Maynard Road at 209 Lower Road was "The Warrior".

When the area was redeveloped after the war, a new pub was built on the corner of Lower Road & Redriff Road and was also named the Warrior. This site is now occupied by the Wetherspoons "Surrey Docks Tavern":
