"I was born at number 43 Mellick’s place on the 26,12.1932 at my nans house, they built part of Purbrook estate and we were moved with other people into the new flats we lived at 41 Purbrook estate. My nan and aunts were also moved into the flats and Mellicks place was demolished. when that, was finished we moved into a prefab at 112 abbey street were I lived until 1954 when I got married."

John died aged 49 and his brother George (1796-1854), my 3 great grandfather, took over his fellmonger business. Around 1850 there was a cholera epidemic and George moved his family out into the country away from the disease and bad conditions. He stayed behind to look after the business and paid the price and died in 1854.
