- Trocadero opened in December 1930
I remember my brother Bob entering a talent competition at the Trocodero & coming second. (Late 1950s early 60s?) I remember that a group won, which was not surprising as at that time Rock-n-Roll was all the rage & ballad singers were not as popular. My brother sung the song IF, a Perry Como song & was asked to go back the next night & sing the same song, which he did (2nd again). They asked if he would like to go on tour with the organizers of the show, just as a singer in-between the big acts. Great opportunity but after talking to his other half who wasn’t too keen, which you can understand, he decided to turn it down. I often wondered over the years whether he regretted that decision.
Did you know that Dennis Norden started his career as assistant manager at the Trocodero Cinema, Elephant & Castle in the 1940s.
