As kids going swimming on a Saturday morning was so much fun, not only did we get out of our parents hair for the day we also got a weekly wash at the same time! I remember on one occasion when we were told to get out of the pool we would always take our time or hide in the pool at the deep end and basically be a nuisance to the pool attendants.

However, this time when we were playing up by running away I was a bit too slow as the attendant (who was german, and I believe he may have been a POW from WWII) grabbed me from behind but as I had just got out of the pool and was still wet his grip on me slipped and he unintentionally scratched my back with his fingernails and boy did that hurt! To this day when I look in the mirror I can still make out the faint marks on my back! Another wheeze we did was to sneak into the girls changing cubicles, as they were on the right hand side of the pool and boys on the left, scare the girls and then leg it!
Oh what fun we had in that pool.
