The Tower Subway is a tunnel beneath the River Thames in central London, between Tower Hill on the north side of the river and Vine Lane (off Tooley Street) on the south. In 1869 a 1,340-foot (410 m) circular tunnel was dug through the London clay using a cast iron shield, an idea that had been patented in 1864 by Peter W. Barlow but never built.[1] A 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge railway was laid in the tunnel and from August 1870 a cable-hauled wooden carriage conveyed passengers from one end to the other. This was uneconomic and the company went bankrupt by the end of the year. The tunnel was converted to pedestrian use and one million people a year crossed under the river, paying a toll of 1⁄2d. The opening of the toll-free Tower Bridge in 1894 caused a drop in income and the tunnel closed in 1898, after being sold to the London Hydraulic Power Company. Today the tunnel is used for water mains.

Not sure where in Tooley Street this was, I know there was/are tunnels under Hays Wharf now Hays Gallaria area, so it could now be London Bridge Hospital, 27 Tooley Street.??
South London 's First Underground Hospital, The first underground hospital in South London has been opened beneath one of the wharves in Tooley-street. Eight wards, containing two beds apiece, are curtained off by green curtains. Heavy fur rugs have been sent from America, Canada, Australia and all over the world, together with plentiful supplies of linen. A reception room, nurses room, medical examination room and splendidly equipped kitchen are all included. Mr F. Richardson, Bermondsey Sanitary Inspector, is the man responsible for furnishings and the whole planning of the hospital. This is the hospital to which anyone in Bermondsey who requires a few day 's rest and treatment can now go.

- Tooley Street 1919, Armour and Company, men and women at work packing and labelling crates in the warehouse.
- Tooley Street, Armour and Company, packing corn beef.
- The premises is listed in the historical directories as being on Tooley Street, but it is also possible that it was on Green Bank, which adjoined Tooley Street. There is a street name of Pitts Court on the side of the building; Pitts Court no longer exists but once occupied the site presently occupied by Braidwood Street.
Armour and Company warehouse with heavily laden horses and carts in the foreground. Not sure where this is but I think they had a Warehouse in Vine Street.
