Route 36 tram [21] at Bricklayers Arms.jpg
Old Kent Road - Bricklayers Arms

Route 36 tram [21] at Bricklayers Arms/Old Kent Road junction. The area is now the Bricklayers Arms flyover. The tram is entering the Bricklayers arms junction. The building on the right is the Old Kent Picture house (the billboards for "Coming Attractions" can just be seen) and the white building behind the tram is the Globe Pub. All these buildings have now gone.

I found this picture and as the text above states that the white building behind the tram was the Globe Pub? I have never known it as a Pub only a Cinema, can anyone confirm this?

Bermondsey Boy I can only remember the Globe as a cinema and never as a pub It must have been converted pretty late in the day. Can anyone remember the the shop next to the other cinema SPO, Sausages Potato and Onion, as I remember, it was a wonderful place to go for a feed on a very wet cold day.. Would love a photo of the Brick with the tram and the Globe Please . Cheers Mate Ron

A ‘then and now’ view in Old Kent Road from similar view points. 1910 – 2015.
The Kentish Drovers Pub is on the left (Pub Sign) corner of Commercial Way.
To the right of the tram is a small two-wheeled milk-cart. We can even see the large milk-churn on the cart. It is a drawn by a single horse who waits patiently while the milkman delivers the milk to one of the shops. On the bus, the front sign-board reads ‘Forest Hill via Brockley, in the distance, we can see the tall tower of Christ Church, with Asylum Road to the left., with the boy standing in the middle of the road.

Old Kent Road. Best guess is the other side of Commercial Way, opposite the Kentish Drovers Pub which is numbered 722-720 Old Kent Road, when coming from New Cross, c1905??

Junction of Pomroy Street and Old Kent Road in 1953. Very like where Fosney’s tram is in an earlier post, bus/tram heading towards New Cross. Good to see I’m not the only one that doe’s it, as strictly speaking this is New Cross Road, Old Kent Road ends the other side of the Bridge. "Not a lot of people know that" ;)

The last trams on Route 36 and Route 38 rattled along the Old Kent Road / New Cross Road on July 5th, 1952 and here in early 1953 the tracks are being removed.
