I see on the poster Lew Lazar was fighting Charlie Kray, Lew was a good fighter,in fact he knocked Kray out in that fight, who said good?. I met Lew well after his fighting days only I knew some of his family from Stepney, the family name was Lazares and one of them played football for Leyton Orient & QPR.

Interesting, I only noticed the twins on the poster. I had completely forgot that Charlie was one of the brothers. I did not remember Lew but just looked up his terrific record, 48-8-4

Re: OLD KENT ROAD.
Air raid damage at Old Kent Road garage. The only evidence of the bombing appears to be the small piles of rubble visible midground centre and right. Double and single deck buses are parked in and around the garage, together with a lorry (midground left).

"The Livesey building was bequeathed by George Livesey, a local benefactor, to the Commissioners for Public Libraries and Museums for the Parish of Camberwell in 1890. It was given as a free public library and operated until 1966 “
Shenton Street was left of the Livesey Public Library and is no longer there.

Re: OLD KENT ROAD.
From the Daily Mirror.
Old Kent Road 1955. Fourteen people were injured late last night when a Pilchers of Chatham,Kent, coach crashed into a fried fish shop in the Old Kent Road, SE. The coach was taking a party of Boy Scouts and Wolf Cubs and members of their families home to Chatham after a visit to a circus. The roof of the coach was torn off and every window broken. Most of the injured were Cubs, but two girls and three women were also taken to hospital. The coach driver was taken unconscious from his wrecked cabin. Nobody was hurt in the shop. A coach which had just brought back a darts team to a nearby public house took the uninjured members of the party on to Chatham." Trafalgar Avenue and the Lord Nelson Pub are to the right out of the picture.

People queuing for bread outside a baker's shop on the Old Kent Road, during a bread shortage caused by a national strike of the Bakers' Union. Coming from the Bricklayers Arms these shops were on the right before East Street.

I am sure that the John Edgington works in Old Kent Road was familiar to most of us.
Founded in 1805 the company manufactured a wide variety of product from tents ,flags, banners, Parpaulins and Ropes and durring the war shrouds for civilan dead.
In 1878 they entered into a contract with The Prison Commissioners to produce and supply hangmans ropes untill the last hanging in 1964.
The factory occupied a vast area in Old Kent Road and was built mostly of wood and was removed in 1967 to make way for the Bricklayers Arms Flyover326533f6af814692afb0d0960fbd11844495b412(1).jpgbc29ccce1e0075c9c0a66c1a62a3c77be21a059d.jpg
I found this while clearing out a shed and your post was very useful in finding out what it is, i am thinking its a brass centre pole holder for a tent, someone please correct me if im wrong!
Re: OLD KENT ROAD.
Old Kent Road c1900. I think the bridge in the distance is the railway bridge by Ilderton Road, which is on the left.
Re: OLD KENT ROAD.
No words to this picture, just a date. I think this is the Old Kent Road by the Dun Cow. The large shop on the left is Barnes Pianos corner of Madron Street, which I think was at one time Kinglake Street before the road changes.
H. Wells & Barnes Pianos both numbered 254, could be the same premises 9 years apart.
