Tracing old Bermondsey places

Postby Perkins » Tue Jul 21, 2020 8:59 pm

Hello
I have been mapping a number of generations of my Bermondsey ancestors by where they lived to try and infer how they may have met. There are a couple of locations that I am struggling to find ...
Williams Court (1871)
Marshalls Place (1888)
Perseverance Street (1891)
Tilbury Place (1911)

Please can anyone help - Kiwi? ;-)

My ancestors seemed also to move house a lot - was this common and why. They tended to live in poor / slum housing as they were leather workers / sail makers / sawyers.

Many Thanks.

Hi Perkins,
Just to unfortunately say a lot of the maps do not show Courts or Places. So, I think there was a Williams Square? a few streets away from Star Place and near to Hargreaves Square, where the Meakin Estate is today.

Perseverance Street ran left off Neckinger Street and where Druid Street is today.

Marshalls Place was off Spa Road, more or less opposite Neckinger.

Tilbury Place was off Fair Street and near Coxson Place.
Hope this helps Kiwi.
