Since 1719 the China hall has been a pub on lower road Rotherhithe
In 1719 a pub on the site was called the "Cock and Pye Ale House." It later became the "Marsh Gate" and records show that in 1776 it was called the "Green Man."

Caulkers were the men who resealed joints on boats.
The Jolly Caulkers was situated at 126 Lower Road.
It was later renamed The Caulkers and is now used
as a bar/restaurant called The Yellow House.
