This part of Upper Ground was called Upper Ground Street. The part by Waterloo Bridge was called Commercial Road. Boddy's Bridge was on the otherside of the Engineering Works (left)

The Rose and Crown public house in Upper Ground. The pub was rebuilt c1975 and is now called the Mulberry Bush, as above.

The Shot Tower was in Old Shot Tower Wharf which was off Commercial Road and near to where Gabriel’s Wharf is today.

Upper Ground formally Commercial Road, Waterloo Bridge end.

Tilley & Co. Fire Engine, throughout the mid nineteenth century fire engines were either horse drawn or pulled by men.

If you look at the map (first Post) it looks as though Upper Ground went right and (Old) Barge House Street went straight on.
