The London Street Directory for 1921 shows "Talbot Brothers, barge builders," at several addresses on Rotherhithe Street: "145, 147, 149 and 200 (Norway, Ransome's and Carolina Wharves) and Clarence Wharf."
The company of Talbot Brothers survived into the 1960s.

John William Talbot.jpg

This is a photograph of my Great Great Grandfather John William Talbot, proprietor of Ransoms Wharf Bermondsey and in the family business of Talbot Brothers, shown in the robes of Worshipful Master of Master Shipwrights Company. Born in 1830, he was the son of Robert Talbot and grandson of the founder of Talbot Brothers, also Robert, who was born in 1778.

John William Talbot was married to Matilda Woodley in 1853. They had 10 children, a number of which died in infancy. I am descended from his eldest son, John James Woodley Talbot. John William took his own life in 1883 at the age of 52.

Robert Talbot brought the barge building business down the Thames from Pangbourne to Lambeth in the 1790s. Subsequently he moved to Rotherhithe. See my blog about my ggg grandfather https://somerville66.blogspot.com/2014/ ... arges.html
