Re: PEEK FREAN (Free Biscuits)
4622465368.jpg When we were nippers in the early 60's my mum got a job in Peek Freans. I can remember vividly me and my brother struggling to carry home a huge plastic bag full of broken biscuits over my shoulders on a Friday evening. These were the throw- out biscuits that nobody wanted, but it wa...

Re: Dunton Road True Love
Picture 097 copy.jpg When I was a nipper, 11 years or so, I fell madly in love with a girl at St Josephs School called Tina. When I found out that she lived on Dunton Road in the Ash House estate only about a mile from where I lived I decided to walk our pet dog every night, weekends too, past her ...

One day my mum asked me to go and get a few things from the shop and ...

Re: Abbey Street
What a great picture of the Royal George Pub. I remember as kids we would scour the local bins behind Abbey Buildings looking for empty beer bottles so we could return them to the Royal George via a tiny room at the front of the pub which was the off license, we were given a biscuit as a return depo...

Re: Abbey Buildings Boy!
Hi Merv.
What a great story about the lives of you and your family in and around Bermondsey! Sometimes my generation and others don't really appreciate what thousands of people like yourself went through during the blitz. It was a pleasure to read your story Merv.
All the best!

Re: Grange Road
What a great photo! I recall on many occasions me and my mates would spend most of the day in that derelict pub just mucking about and if memory serves me this was also the entrance to the Spa Park too where I got bashed in the face by my brother on the swing one day and had to walk all the way to G...

Re: Grange Road Swimmers
As kids going swimming on a Saturday morning was so much fun, not only did we get out of our parents hair for the day we also got a weekly wash at the same time! I remember on one occasion when we were told to get out of the pool we would always take our time or hide in the pool at the deep end and ...

Re: The Grange
We use to hang out with the Wards who lived in the first house on Grange Walk next to the Red Cow pub. Had great fun running in and out of the pub being chased by the landlord and his staff! Gerrard Ward was one of my mates that lived there, I wonder whats he doing now and how his life has been?
