Re: Southwark Park Road

I have borrowed the above image for a memory from 1960. At that time the area shown at "A" had become Robert Jones House between Linsey Street ("D") and Rouel Road ("B"). In 1960 the headmaster of Alma School which was in Alexis Street ("C") was Mr Murphy whos...

Re: Lucey Road

In 1965/6 I was taking an A-level at Bacon's, the first time this had been done, apparently. I was the only student doing this so I had a lot of time learning on my own. After school I worked on paper rounds and in My Mum & Dad's shop in Linsey Street until it closed at 7:30. After something to ...

Bermondsey.biz

There used to be a website called Bermondsey.biz that had loads of images on it. It seems to have gone. Any idea what happened to it and all the images?

Re: Topics

Don't go beating yourself up over an issue which the best minds on the planet have never satisfactorily resolved. The best solution that has so far been found is tagging (each image or thread or post is tagged with keywords and these are used to create pages which display topics which could be of in...

Re: HALPINS TRANSPORT.

Joe Halpin, who lived at 32 Alexis Street, had a cooperage yard at 33/37 Linsey Street in the 1960s, and probably earlier. The yard was lost when the road was slum cleared in 1969. Joe was a jolly, rotund, elderly man with a striking nose. Lovely chap.

Re: Grange Road

The picture of St Luke's brought back a memory. I was a member of the 22nd Bermondsey Cub Pack which held pack meetings in the basement of St Paul's Church in Keyse Road during the late 1950s. The pack was run by a husband and wife and son team. The head of the pack (the husband) was Baloo, his wife...

Re: Grange Road

I remember the story of the skeleton being found in Canon Murnane Road. Was it a WW2 victim? I seem to recall that it was reported as being much earlier than that.

Re: MYSTERY-DO YOU RECOGNISE THESE PLACES?

Looks like Stanworth Street to me. This is based on a postwar map. Looks like Abbey Buildings in the distance if you get close up. Not many buildings of that height in the Lynton Road area.

Here's the Coburg Road site on a Bing aerial view.
