Re: Bermondsey Square

What a fantastic video. Brought back so many happy memories of the square when I was a child! We lived in Abbey Buildings opposite the Square and on Friday mornings and evenings, before and after school, me and my mates would help put up the stalls and then take down them down for the antique marke...

Re: Grange road

Hi Kiwi

The first photo looks as if it may be just off the junction with The Grange opposite the swimming pool? Would be interesting to see where it is.
But to be honest Kiwi I'm more curious about the "FREE SEX" sign displaying Green Shield Stamps??

Re: Tower Bridge Gap

Hi all. It wasn't till i started reading about the gaps on the bridge that I remembered thats exactly what we did as kids at the weekend! We would straddle the gap and wait for a heavy vehicle to come across hoping it will make the bridge raise up and then we would have to jump to one side or the ot...

Re: Abbey Street Arch

I remember when I was a young 'un (late 60's) there were some mens urinals where the sandbags were in the photo. When we use to go and come home from school and if you were really, really desperate for the loo you had to hold your breath and rush in for the loo and be as quick as you can as the sten...

Abbey Buildings

Have been searching for a few years now for some photos of Abbey Buildings and came across these. Have marked where we use to live. Has bought back a thousand happy memories of my childhood growing up in Bermondsey. The photo that shows the entrance to the flats has damaged railings and this was due...

Re: Tommy Steele and things

I remember the blond haired kid as I think he lived behind me in Abbey Buildings and we all remember him saying that he's being paid £50 for starring in a film! Great memories for everyone! Does anyone know if this video can be purchased anywhere? Have tried the usual places like Amazon and E Bay bu...

Re: PEEK FREAN (Free Biscuits)

4622465368.jpg When we were nippers in the early 60's my mum got a job in Peek Freans. I can remember vividly me and my brother struggling to carry home a huge plastic bag full of broken biscuits over my shoulders on a Friday evening. These were the throw- out biscuits that nobody wanted, but it wa...

Re: Dunton Road True Love

Picture 097 copy.jpg When I was a nipper, 11 years or so, I fell madly in love with a girl at St Josephs School called Tina. When I found out that she lived on Dunton Road in the Ash House estate only about a mile from where I lived I decided to walk our pet dog every night, weekends too, past her ...

One day my mum asked me to go and get a few things from the shop and ...
