My mother and grandfather were in that arch, mum being a little girl (10) at the time. They lived in the Neckinger, as I did as a child in the 50s. My grandad was a railwayman and fire warden during the war, then later was an ack ack gunner in Southwark Park. God knows when he slept. Mum remembered ...
