MINA ROAD

Two schools, Mina Street School c.1905. A Higher Grade or Higher Elementary school, and was what we’d call a secondary school for children of 11, 12 and 13: Mina Road Higher Grade School. It seems that though it was called Mina Street School it was in fact in Mina Road but I may be wrong on that. MI...

Re: MYSTERY-DO YOU RECOGNISE THESE PLACES?

There looks like a pub sign opposite on the other side of Albany Road. I do know there was a Dun Cow Pub in Albany Road way back ...

Re: Tower Bridge

Hi Bermondseyboy. The more you look at the Video the more things you see so I'm going to leave it there. A lot of shots where in the Battersea & Wandsworth area & Beckton Gas Works. As we know most Films & TV have a poetic license to make it more interesting, which you can understand. Ex...

Re: Tower Bridge

Great bit of film Bermondseyboy, I can't remember the series. Am I right in thinking that the chase was on our manor & when they come onto the Tower Bridge Approach they are coming from East London? Nice story about Miss May Wilshaw, that would have given her a Lift. :)

HARPER ROAD

Harper Road runs between New Kent Road & Newington Causeway. I think that is Falmouth Road on the street sign? In 1906, it was split in half Union Road (Borough End) & Harper Road (New Kent Road End) sometime before that it was called Horsemonger Lane. HARPER ROAD BOROUGH 1977..jpg HORSEMONG...

Re: Leroy Street

This is where John Street Youth Club was held. I went there between 1948 to 1956. The building has changed slightly but still recognisable from the old days. The alley to the right is the alley leading into Guinness’s Buildings which had a gate that Mr Horton (Guinness’s Porter) closed & locked ...
